So yup, just finished off my first week of the Fine Art course today
It's been quite interesting..first day we were looking at the performance of art, and the subject of performance art - for those of you who don't know, this is nothing to do with like, plays or operas or anything, it's difficult to really explain who performance art is in a brief sentence, my best advice to you is to go to somewhere like wikipedia and read the article there
honestly! it's a good article believe it or not! so yeah, we looked at artists such as Marina Abramovich and studied how the performance of making a piece can sometimes be better than the final piece itself. I don't know if we get to do any performance art this term...but if we get the opportuntity, its something I would love to try out
And anyway yes, we rolled up some long pieces of the paper to the wall, drew some images from our sketchbooks on there, and tried to draw perpetual motion by hanging an object, then drawing it. i hung (hanged? o.o) a muffin! I'm just that cool
Next day was quite hectic, we had fire alarms going off, which cut down the work we could do, but we got a talk from some very nice people from universities in Canterbury and Maidstone
I already liked the sound of Canterbury, so i think I'm definitely going to look at going there next year, along with Anglia Ruskin, and maybe somewhere like Chelsea?
Maybe even somewhere crazy...like Glasgow or something...
So we didn't get to add a lot more to the wall that day, we mainly did a lot of mono-printing and listening to talks. Next day we were back onto the walls, adding splashes of colour, more 3d elements and such to the piece
it was all very considered and thought through
Then this girl had the cheek to openly remark that mine was "done in a panic" and "had no point"! People are entitled to their own opinion...but sheeeeeesh! Don't make a statement like that when you don't know the facts!
But I'm enjoying it so far. A lot. I like this art thing
